LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Senj (Kvarner, Croatia) is located in Croatian region Kvarner, in the bottom pf mountain Velebit. It is located around 105 km far from Zagreb, around 180 km far from Split and around 70 km far from Rijeka. Climate in Senj is Mediterranean. It is known for very strong and cold wind bora.
HISTORY
Senj is a settlement founded around 3000 years ago. It was first founded on a hill Kuk, but because of the trade inhabitants moved in the bottom of the hill and founded new town in 4th century B.C.
In 2nd century Romans occupied area of Senj. During Roman domination Senj became cultural and trade center of this part of the Adriatic. Many buildings, monuments and infrastructure were built.
Senj was known by the Glagolitic Script in Middle Ages. In Senj was founded first Glagolitic printing office in south-east Europe.
In 15th century Senj was under the domination of Hungarian-Croatian king Matija Korvin. In 1558. on a hill Trbusnjak, fort Nehaj was built, for defense. There was located Senj`s army.
In 18th and 19th century Senj`s port was most important port in Croatia. Town Senj was developing in that time. There were founded: town library, town music... Many Croatian known authors come from Senj: Silvije Strahimir Kranjcevic, Milan Ogrizovic, Vjenceslav Novak...
After the built of railroad Karlovac-Rijeka in 1873., which didn`t include Senj, it became less important port and center.

Town Museum is located in palace of family Vukasovic. It was built in 14th and 15th century. Museum was founded in 1962.
Senj is known for Senj`s Summer Carneval. It lasts 4 days in August.
